15 cultural heritage sites damaged as a result of the missile attack on Odessa

On January 31, 2025, Russian troops launched a missile strike on the historical center of Odessa, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The attack damaged about 19 cultural heritage sites, including national architectural objects, museums and historical buildings.

This was reported by Chairman Gennady Trukhanov.

A powerful blast wave broke out windows, deformed doors and damaged decorative elements of historical buildings. The Philharmonic was the most affected, where the explosion destroyed authentic joinery, the main entrance and stained glass windows.

Since 2023, the Philharmonic building has been under enhanced protection by UNESCO in accordance with the Second Protocol of 1999 to the 1954 Hague Convention “For the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict”.
