22 people evacuated from damaged Cherkasy dormitory at night

Rescuers evacuated 22 people from a four-story dormitory that was damaged as a result of a UAV attack on Cherkasy on the night of May 4.

This was reported by the head of the Cherkasy regional military administration, Ihor Taburets.

People were relocated to a shelter set up in one of the nearby schools. But they refused to settle there and almost all of them went to their relatives, the head of the region noted.

Rescuers, utility workers and the Red Cross continue to work in the four-story building.

From 11 p.m. on May 3, a series of explosions were heard in Cherkasy.

Five fires broke out in Cherkasy. According to the State Emergency Service, residential apartments, a warehouse building of one of the enterprises, a summer house and dry vegetation were burning. Two apartments on the first and second floors of a four-story dormitory suffered significant damage. The windows of other apartments were also damaged.

All fires were extinguished by the State Emergency Service units. 26 units of equipment and 101 rescuers worked on the scene.

As reported by the chairman of Cherkasy Anatoly Bondarenko, a headquarters for assisting the victims was opened in a Cherkasy school.

Later, the head of the Cherkasy regional military administration, Igor Taburets, reported that the defenders destroyed 15 Russian UAVs in the region. The falling targets and debris in Cherkasy damaged the residential infrastructure, warehouses of a furniture company and a trade base, and garden structures.

Taburets added that several people sought medical help, but did not require hospitalization. According to preliminary data, ten apartments were damaged in the four-story building, two of which burned down completely.
