77 Ukrainian museums found themselves in the hands of the Russian Federation

More than 20 federal museums of the Russian Federation have established control over 77 Ukrainian museums under occupation. The goal is not only to cover up the occupation with ostentatious “guardianship”, but also to officially plunder Ukrainian cultural heritage, including it in the Russian museum catalog. This is written by the advisor to the chairman of Mariupol Petro Andryushchenko.

So far, 36 museums have become part of the Russian system.

This is only officially. How many more Ukrainian museums Russia has de facto plundered is not yet known. Obviously, the process is not just ongoing, but is gaining momentum, – Andryushchenko reports

Dozens of Russian museum workers illegally entered the temporarily occupied territories.

This is official cultural looting, which demonstrates the toxicity of the Russian museum system. The inclusion of Ukrainian values in the Russian catalog is part of a broader genocidal strategy – an attempt to erase the national identity of Ukraine… This process is not about “culture”, but about the destruction of national memory. Each illegal entry in the Russian catalog is yet another piece of evidence of organized cultural genocide. Ukraine and its international partners must increase pressure on Russia, seek tough sanctions and bring those responsible to justice. Russia must pay for every stolen exhibit and destroyed museum, – added Andryuschenko.
