It is noted that the banks of the Kharkiv, Lopan, and Udy rivers are polluted with fuel and lubricants, and in some places the smell of petroleum products is present. The surface of the river water is polluted and has the appearance of an oily film.

On the territory of the Osnovyansk district, in the zone affected by pollution, 6 mine wells, which are used by the population for technical needs, were examined, but there are no information signs near the wells regarding the prohibition of using water for drinking purposes.

Late in the evening of February 9, Russian troops attacked Kharkiv with “Shakheds”, hitting an oil depot in the Nemyshlyansky district. According to the regional prosecutor’s office, at the time of the impact, there were approximately 3.8 thousand tons of petroleum products – gasoline and diesel fuel – in the tanks. Fuel got to the Nemyshlia River, which flows through the territory of Kharkiv, and from it to the Kharkiv, Lopan and Udy rivers. To eliminate the consequences of pollution, equipment and sorbents that absorb and neutralize the effect of oil products were delivered to Kharkiv region. The regional military administration assures that the fuel did not reach Siversky Dinets.
