It will take many years to restore the Dnipro HPP

The extent of the destruction at the Dnipro HPP still requires a thorough examination, but it is already clear that it will take years to restore it.

This was said by the General Director of Ukrhydroenergo Ihor Syrota on March 25: “We already understand that the Dnipro HPP is out of order for a long time. For now, we cannot tell in detail and understand what and how much, but we already understand that it will take years to restore the station to the state it was in before the missile strike.”

Ihor Syrota said that it is still not possible to dismantle all the debris at the station, because both the floor and the walls with crane beams leaned towards the engine room. It is necessary to dismantle the upper part of the engine room in order to reach the lower one.

“We held a meeting with the head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, so that experts from the State Emergency Service on the technique of dismantling ceilings would join the liquidation of the consequences,” he said.

The General Director confirmed that the situation at the Dnipro HPP dam is under control, there is no threat of a breach.

“The dam itself is not damaged today. Only the under-crane beams located on the dam and the bridge crossing were damaged,” said Sirota.

As you know, Dnipro HPP was the largest station of the Dnipro Cascade, and after the missile strike, Ukraine’s energy system lost 1,000 MW of maneuverable power.

On March 22, the Russians launched a missile attack on the Dniprovskaya HPP in Zaporizhzhia. Eight rockets hit the station.
