
From open sources it is known about the damage or destruction of 31 monuments of cultural heritage in the Luhansk region.
This was announced by the head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, Artem Lysogor.
“April 18 is the International Day of Monuments and Landmarks. But instead of preserving and gathering tourists around our historical and cultural pearls, we are forced to record their destruction by the Russians,” he emphasized.
The unique Ilyinsk church of 1861 in the village of Varvarivka, Kremin district, was damaged by Russian shells.
Lysychansk, a monument of the Belgian architectural heritage, is a historical mansion, in the building of which Lyceum No. 17 worked, was completely destroyed. The building of one of the buildings was targeted by a Russian projectile. The fire completely destroyed the more than a century-old monument, only the walls survived.
Catherine’s Church in Shchastya. A special relic of this temple is the unique mosaic tiles on the floor. According to local legends, Soviet officials tried to tear off the mosaic and appropriate it for themselves, but during such attempts the tiles crumbled. During World War II, the area around the church was mutilated by explosions, but not a single shell hit the church. And the Russians already mutilated the temple with artillery fire at the end of February 2022.
The Palace of Culture of Chemists in Severodonetsk, which was the decoration and symbol of the city and gathered hundreds of citizens for holidays and concerts, was damaged.
