The Russians admitted that liquidation awaits the “unprofitable” mines of Donbas

The Russians intend to liquidate coal mines in the occupied territories of Luhansk and Donetsk regions. We are talking about enterprises that will be able to maintain their profitability.

This was said by Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Serhii Mochalnikov.

According to Mochalnikov, 33 coal mines continue to operate in the Russian-controlled territories of Luhansk and Donetsk regions.

At the same time, the Russians intend to close that part of them that will be able to demonstrate profitability without state support.

“Of the 33 operating enterprises, those that can operate profitably without state support should remain, and they should become private. Accordingly, the rest of the mines will be liquidated,” said Mochalnikov.

The remaining enterprises should be liquidated after the use of economically justified reserves, if any.

Mochalnikov added that currently 11 mines in the occupied part of Luhansk and Donetsk regions have passed into the hands of private owners.

At the end of March 2024, it became known that the Russians were preparing to liquidate several mines in the occupied part of Luhansk region, which had previously been handed over to “investors” from the Russian Federation.

In occupied Dovzhansk (formerly Sverdlovsk), the Russians are taking out valuable equipment from two coal mines.

This was reported by the press service of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration.

According to the information of the regional military administration, the equipment is being dismantled at the “Dovzhanska Kapitalna” and “Chervony Partizan” mines, which have been controlled by the “LPR” group since 2014.

The instruction to cut and export the equipment to the territory of the Russian Federation came from the “investors” who previously got access to the region’s mines for practically nothing.

At one of the mines listed above, workers have already been warned about quick long-term vacations.

According to the decision of the occupation administration of Luhansk region, the transfer of mines into private hands now takes place without bidding.

Thus, the “LPR” group independently decides which companies will have access to the management of coal mining enterprises in the region.
