The estimated amount of damage to the environment of the “Svyati Gory” National Park due to the fires in the forests on May 7, caused by Russian shelling, amounts to more than 2.6 billion hryvnias.
On May 7, as a result of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation, a fire broke out in the Lyman forest near Kramatorsk, in the Donetsk region.
The fire destroyed 470 hectares of forest, which is part of the “Svyati Gory” National Nature Park. The work to extinguish the fire lasted more than 10 hours.
The State Environmental Inspection of Ukraine has calculated the estimated amount of damages for atmospheric air pollution, which amounts to more than UAH 2.6 billion. Due to the mining of the territory, eco-inspectors could not carry out an inspection of the territory, the damage calculation was carried out on the basis of geospatial data and firemen’s reports.
The calculation of damages caused to the nature reserve fund will be carried out after a commission inspection of the affected territory of the national park.
