Employees of the Kherson Art Museum named after Shevkunenko was identified with five more paintings taken by Russian forces to the annexed Crimea.
It was possible to identify the paintings thanks to a TV story made by a Russian TV channel in April 2023 in the Central Museum of Tavrida. The author of the works is the artist Yury Didenko. They were written between 1978 and 1987.
To date, museum staff have managed to install 120 paintings that were taken out during the Russian occupation. 119 of them are in the Central Museum of Tavrida. The fate of the 120th is not known for certain, but the museum says there is evidence that it is also in the hands of Russian forces.
Earlier, the Oleksiy Shevkunenko Kherson Art Museum identified three paintings from its collection that were taken by the Russian military to occupied Crimea. They were able to recognize the exhibits from the photo from the Central Tavrida Museum in Simferopol. Also the Kherson Art Museum named after Oleksiy Shevkunenko accused Russia of illegally exporting three paintings by Ivan Aivazovskyі.
