
As a result of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 80% of the forests in the “Holy Mountains” national park in the Donetsk region have been destroyed. This is the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine.
About 9.5 thousand hectares of the forest of the national park have been burned by fire, another 10 thousand hectares need to be examined and neutralized for explosive objects that may be there. This is stated by the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection Olena Kramarenko. She also reports that the first thing to be done in the reserve is demining, currently environmentalists are demining on their own, and currently about 100 km of forest roads and approaches to fire reservoirs have been demined.
According to preliminary calculations, the damage to the environment of the national park is estimated at UAH 16 billion.
