The Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications continues to document damage to cultural heritage sites in Ukraine as a result of the Russian attack.
According to the information provided by the regional and Kyiv city military administrations, the total number of affected monuments of the cultural heritage of the regions increased by 10 units and currently amounts to 1,179 objects in October. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications.
Of them, 120 are of national importance, 990 are local, and 69 have just been discovered. Repeated attacks on previously damaged cultural heritage sites took place in Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Kherson, and Dnipropetrovsk regions. New — in Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.
To date, cultural monuments have been damaged in 18 regions and Kyiv, in particular: in Kharkiv region — 316, Donetsk region — 163, Kherson region — 157, Odesa region — 116, Kyiv region and the city of Kyiv — 81, Chernihiv region — 65, Lviv region — 60 , Zaporizhia — 53, Mykolaiv and Dnipropetrovsk — 41 each, Luhansk — 31, Sumy — 29, Khmelnytsky — 10, Poltava — 6, Vinnytsia and Zhytomyr — 4, Kirovohrad and Cherkasy — 1.
At the end of October 2024, almost the entire territory of Luhansk and significant parts of the territories of Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk and Kherson regions are still under temporary occupation. This makes it impossible to calculate the exact number of damaged monuments of cultural heritage that were affected during hostilities and occupation.
