Because of the war started by Russia, more than 6,500 crimes against the environment have been recorded in Ukraine. Almost 70 billion euros in damages were caused.
This was reported by the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Svitlana Grynchuk: The consequences are terrible in our country – there are 6.5 thousand cases of ecocide, crimes against the environment, which have already been recorded, for which the evidence base has been collected and continues to be collected. This is a huge amount of damage – almost 70 billion euros, which was caused to one or another area of our environment. These include water resources, foxes, and an increase in greenhouse gas emissions.
Grynchuk also added that the monetary estimate is very approximate and according to minimum calculations it is from 65 to 70 billion euros.
These are very approximate numbers. Unfortunately, the damage caused to the environment in monetary terms is much greater than to all other sectors of the economy – Grynchuk said.
Russian aggression caused irreparable damage to Ukraine’s environment. Ukraine has become the most mined country in the world.
