Russia Destroys Ukraine’s Only Factory Producing Drilling Equipment for Oil and Gas Wells

Russian missile strikes completely destroyed the Drohobych Bit Plant in Lviv Oblast, the only enterprise in Ukraine that manufactured equipment for drilling artesian, oil and gas wells. This was reported by the Presidential Commissioner for Sanctions Policy of Ukraine Vladyslav Vlasyuk.

Destruction of a Strategic Enterprise

The Drohobych Bit Plant was of particular importance for Ukraine’s energy sector. Founded in 1946, after reconstruction in the 1960s, it specialized in the production of drill bits, which were supplied not only to Ukraine but also for export.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the enterprise received the status of a strategic enterprise, important for the country’s economy and security. Despite this, the plant faced financial difficulties, in particular, bankruptcy proceedings in 2010 led to its reorganization into a limited liability company.

Russian influence and calls for sanctions

Vladyslav Vlasyuk stressed that the destruction of the plant is taking place against the backdrop of the strengthening of the positions of the Russian company Volgaburmash, which is increasing exports of its drilling equipment to EU countries. Vlasyuk called on Ukraine’s allies to impose sanctions against the Russian manufacturer, which is using the war to strengthen its position in the market.

Officially, the time of the strike is not specified. The last air alert in the Lviv region was on the night of November 26.
