Over the seven days of the war, the Russian army inflicted irreparable damage on the infrastructure of Ukrainian cities. On March 1, the Russian Ministry of Defence issued a statement warning that all Kyiv residents living near retransmission hubs should evacuate as soon as possible. The warning was published in relation to possible attacks on the technological facilities of the Security Service of Ukraine and the 72nd Main Center for Information and Psychological Special Operations in Kyiv. The federal body argues that its actions are aimed at suppressing information attacks against the Russian Federation. But taking as a target allegedly only information facilities, the army struck the communications infrastructure in Kyiv, taking the lives of five Ukrainian civilians.
At about 6 p.m. Moscow time, the missile struck a TV tower in Kyiv, specifically the broadcasting equipment room, which caused temporary disruptions in the broadcasting of a number of TV channels in Kyiv and the Kyiv region. Television is not only an important resource in the information war, but also one of the main sources of warning in the region. Local TV channels broadcast reports of an air and ground attack, as well as giving commands to take shelter for the safety of civilians. This is the kind of war the Russian president is waging. Although on February 24, the Ministry of Defence stated that The Russian Armed Forces are not launching any missile or artillery strikes against cities in Ukraine… Civilians are not threatened, in practice, it turns out that this is not the case.
During seven days of the so-called special military operation, dozens of infrastructure facilities were destroyed, in particular airports in Boryspil, Zhuliany, Dnipro, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kherson, Lutsk, and other cities. Shells hit schools and kindergartens in Kherson, Mariupol, Kharkiv, and other cities. Airstrikes were carried out on hospitals and maternity hospitals in Zhytomyr, Kharkiv, and Melitopol. The Ministry of Defence does not comment on whose shells they were, and sometimes claims that the missiles belonged to Ukrainian nationalists. Meanwhile, civilians who were in bombshelters were trapped under the rubble. Many are injured or dead.
Vasily Polonsky “argued” for the actions of the Russian Ministry of Defence, emphasizing the necessity of a reference to this institution in his March 1 interview on the Dozhd TV channel. Commenting on the statement of Russian Minister of Defence Sergei Shoigu that Russian troops will continue the operation in Ukraine until they achieve their goals, the journalist expressed the inaccuracy of the stated goal, as it is not completely clear what is meant. The main goal of the Ministry of Defence was stated as protection of Russia from military threats from the West, while President Vladimir Putin announced other main goals, which consisted of the denationalization and demilitarization of Ukraine.
Thus, by denationalizing, demilitarizing, and primarily protecting the Russian Federation from military threats from the West, the Russian army is mercilessly striking at the infrastructure of central, eastern, southern, and northern Ukraine and killing and maiming civilians who are hiding in shelters from war.
