The Russian army bombed one of the bridges within the city of Kherson, trying to cut off a large area from the mainland. This was reported by the head of the Kherson regional military administration, Alexander Prokudin.
“At about six in the evening on August 2, the Russian army attacked Kherson from aviation. The Russians dropped two guided bombs on the city. As a result of the attacks, the automobile bridge leading to the Korabel microdistrict was damaged,” he wrote.
According to Prokudin, in addition to the bridge itself, the strike also damaged three private houses and a high-rise building.
There was no information about the casualties.
There is currently no official information about how serious the damage to the bridge is; there are large holes in its canvas, but in general the structure has withstood the test.
The Korabel microdistrict, which locals often call simply “The Island”, is located on the Quarantine Island in the southwestern part of Kherson. The island is home to an industrial zone and a residential area, which has been actively built up since the late 1960s.
The district adjoins the Dnieper River to the east, and is cut off from the mainland on the other sides by another branch of the Dnieper, which is separated into a separate river, the Kosheva. The district is connected to the mainland by only two bridges – a road and a railway bridge. Without them, getting to and from the island will only be possible by air or by swimming.
