15,000 books burned in Russian attack on Sumy university – library director

As a result of the Russian attack on Sumy on the night of August 18, a library in one of the buildings of Sumy State University burned down – library director Olga Krytska reported this on August 20.

According to the head of the library, about 15,000 books burned down as a result of the fire. This is mainly modern literature that has been purchased over the past five to six years.

Despite the fact that there is a war, despite the difficulties, we still formed funds, we bought new textbooks. Recently, we have had a huge demand from students and employees for modern Ukrainian literature, literature for self-development, so we have been actively replenishing the fund with such literature. Unfortunately, everything has been destroyed, we have not been able to save a single book here. All that remains is the charred remains.”

She added that the library recently received some foreign books from the University of Liverpool as part of an exchange. They planned to hold an exhibition in the near future, but these copies also went to waste.
