Russia is stepping up attacks on the Ukrainian rail network in an attempt to destabilize the country. In recent months, there has been a significant increase in attacks on the rail infrastructure, which is crucial for the functioning of the state during wartime. The 21,000 kilometers of railway tracks provide not only transport but also the strategic stability of Ukraine. Civilians are also suffering from these attacks.
In early October, Russia struck a train at the station in Shostka, Sumy region, injuring 13 people. One man died of a heart attack, and three children were among the hospitalized. The Ukrainian side claims that the targets of the attack were civilians and rescue workers, which could be classified as a war crime under international law.
