The most massive blow since the beginning of the war: all TPPs of “Centrenergo” stopped working

On the night of November 8, the Russian army carried out the most massive blow to Ukrainian thermal power plants since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. All TPPs of “Centrenergo” stopped and do not generate electricity.

The company emphasized that on November 8, the Russians shelled those TPPs that were restored after the strikes of 2024.

“Now there is zero generation. We have lost what we restored around the clock. Completely!”, the message says.

The Russians are inflicting even more severe blows each time. “Centrenergo” stated that they will restore, repair and introduce new generation.

Before the full-scale Russian invasion, the Trypillya TPP had a capacity of about 1,800 MW, and the Zmiivska TPP (Kharkiv region) had a capacity of ~2,150 MW. As of 2025, there is no accurate data on the generating capacity, as Russia regularly attacks the plants.

Considering the capacity of both TPPs, it can be assumed that their combined electricity, if operated continuously, would be enough to power approximately 11 cities with a population of 1 million at maximum load on the network. If energy consumption were reduced, this figure could double. That is, the Trypillya and Zmiivska TPPs could theoretically power Kyiv with a population of almost 3 million, Kharkiv with 1.4 million people, Odessa with 1 million people, and the Dnipro with about 1 million people.
