On December 13, Russian troops attacked a Turkish civilian ship in the Black Sea that was moving along an established corridor for the merchant fleet.
The incident was reported by the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, emphasizing that the ship had nothing to do with military transportation.
It is previously known that the ship was traveling along a commercial route agreed with international structures. According to the Ukrainian military, the attack on the ship is another deliberate violation of international maritime law.
The Ukrainian Navy noted that the attack on a civilian vessel demonstrates Russia’s willingness to deliberately create threats to the safety of shipping. The Ukrainian side emphasizes that such actions pose risks to all countries whose merchant ships use this route.
The military stressed that the Russian side is purposefully trying to intimidate foreign shipowners. At the same time, Ukraine continues to support the operation of the maritime corridor, which has already proven its effectiveness for exports.
According to the Ukrainian Navy, damage may have occurred on board the Turkish vessel as a result of the attack, but the final data is being clarified. Currently, information about possible casualties among the crew is being verified.
