Russian missile strike: Polish Consulate General damaged in Odesa

As a result of the Russian strike on Odesa on the night of January 13, the Polish Consulate General was damaged.

This was reported by the spokesman for the Polish Foreign Ministry, Maciej Wevyur: “As a result of the strike, windows in the Consulate General building were broken out. Fortunately, the attack took place at night, the number of personnel in the consulate was limited, so no one was injured.”

He added that the Polish Consulate General was probably hit by a missile strike. The building had broken windows and a damaged facade.

Unfortunately, every day we see Russia attacking Ukraine, saying, of course, that the targets are military facilities. But we see missiles and drones flying into residential buildings, how people are left without heat. Therefore, we are very cautious about the information that Russia is transmitting, which does not change the fact – the building was damaged,” Vevuur noted.

According to him, the consular office in Odesa is ready for such situations, since the city is under Russian shelling.

In this context, he stressed his deep respect for the Polish diplomatic staff in Ukraine, as well as the staff of the Polish Institute in Kyiv, who are aware of the risks and remain working in Ukraine.

“We must express great respect to them and their decision to stay in place to build bridges between Ukraine and Poland, contrary to what Russia is trying to do,” the spokesman for the Polish Foreign Ministry stressed. He also noted that the closer Ukraine and international partners get to peace proposals, the more Russia is trying to escalate its actions on the territory of Ukraine.
