
The total amount of damage caused by the war to the ecology of the Poltava region is over 12 billion hryvnias.
From the beginning of the full-scale war on February 24, 2022 to the beginning of January 2026, the total amount of environmental losses is over 12.2 billion hryvnias. This was reported by the Poltava Regional Military Administration on January 16.
Russia owed Poltava region businesses almost four billion hryvnias. Ukrainian courts more often make decisions to recover losses from Russia in favor of businesses. Only in the front-line regions during this time have decisions been made in the amount of over 386 billion hryvnias.
Ukrainian courts have ordered Russia to compensate companies in the Poltava region for 3.8 billion hryvnias in damages. These are nine court decisions made since the beginning of the full-scale war, in which the demands of businesses were satisfied in full or in part.
The war caused $47 million in damage to the ecology of Poltava region. The full-scale invasion affected the state of the ecosystem in all regions of Ukraine.
Over the two years of the full-scale invasion, Russia has caused damage to the Ukrainian environment of almost $63 billion. The Donetsk, Luhansk and Kharkiv regions suffer the most. At the same time, the Poltava region suffered losses of $47.4 million.
In November 2023, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Ruslan Strylets reported during a visit to the Poltava region that a specialist had been instructed to intensify work on calculating the damage.
More than half of the total damage is due to air pollution. Such cases must be recorded quickly and at the moment when the fire occurs.
