The Kremlin’s next target: the Institute for the Study of War revealed how Russia is preparing an attack on the Baltics

Moscow continues to actively create the prerequisites for a potential military escalation against the Baltic states and Poland. The Russian leadership uses manipulative rhetoric to justify its future aggressive actions, portraying NATO as the party provoking the conflict.

This conclusion was made by analysts from the American Institute for the Study of War.

As analysts note, Russia has moved to open accusations of militarization of neighboring states. In particular, on April 23, the Russian Security Council called the actions of the Lithuanian authorities an attempt to create a “center of tension” near the Kaliningrad region.

On the same day, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko stated that the maneuvers of the Alliance’s Joint Expeditionary Forces are allegedly aimed at “working out scenarios of a naval blockade and the seizure of the Kaliningrad region.” In addition, he accused the bloc of deliberately “increasing confrontation” with Russia.

Analysts note that such statements are part of the Kremlin’s large-scale cognitive war. Russia is trying to present NATO as an aggressor in order to divert attention from its own full-scale war in Ukraine and justify a possible intervention in the future.

Moscow views control over the Kaliningrad exclave as a strategic lever. It is the defense of this region that the Kremlin plans to explain possible strikes on Poland or the Baltic states, creating long-term information conditions for legitimizing its aggressive policy in the eyes of internal and external consumers.
