Such actions by the Kremlin may be related to Russia’s need for new military personnel for the war against Ukraine.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu commented on Putin’s decision to simplify obtaining Russian citizenship for residents of Transdnistria.
This is reported by Politico.
On May 16, Sandu said that such actions by the Kremlin may be related to Russia’s need for new military personnel for the war against Ukraine.
“The Russian authorities probably need more people to send to war in Ukraine,” she said during a security conference in Tallinn.
Prime Minister of Moldova Alexandru Munteanu called on the residents of Transdnistria to be careful and not to forget about the duties of citizenship. In the meantime, the country is discussing how to act.
“The Russian passport is becoming the passport of an aggressor country that is not accepted at the table of the civilized world. I think that the Kremlin’s decision is connected with an attempt to attract as many soldiers to the front as possible, given that the recruitment rate has decreased recently,” the Prime Minister of Moldova said.
According to Putin’s decree, adult residents of the region will be able to obtain citizenship through a simplified procedure. To do this, they will not need to live in Russia for five years, confirm knowledge of the Russian language, history or legislation. The document can also be obtained by stateless people living in Transdnistria.
