
As a result of the massive Russian attack on the night of May 24, numerous cultural and scientific sites of the capital and architectural monuments were damaged.
In particular, the following were damaged:
The main post office building on Maidan Nezalezhnosti. According to Ukrposhta Director General Ihor Smilyanskyі, the main office has deformed doors and broken windows. The building is a monument of local architectural significance.
“Bookstore E” on Spasskaya. According to the bookstore chain, the building has broken windows.
The Hinaus cultural space, which is also located on Spasskaya Street. The gallery has broken windows, damaged furniture, doors, office space, and exhibition areas.
Zhytnyy (Rye) Market. The market building has partially broken windows. Last year, the building was included in the list of cultural heritage sites.
Taras Shevchenko Institute of Literature. According to the institution, the Institute’s library, book depositories, and most departments were damaged. This year, the institute is celebrating its 100th anniversary. The difficult financial situation of the country’s oldest literary institution has become even more complicated.
Kyiv Maly (Small) Opera. As reported by the institution, the building has a damaged facade, broken windows and doors, and there is significant damage inside the building. The Lukyanivka People’s House (Kyiv Maly (Small) Opera) is a monument of history and architecture.
We will remind, earlier, the Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy of Ukraine – Minister of Culture Tetyana Berezhna reported that on the night of May 24, cultural institutions in Kyiv suffered the most extensive damage during the full-scale war of Russia against Ukraine. She listed the affected institutions that have the status of national.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyі reported that on the night of May 24, Ukraine was attacked by 90 missiles of various types, of which 36 were ballistic and 600 by drones. The center of the attack was Kyiv and the region. There are dead and wounded.
The Russian shelling damaged the homes of writer Olena Zakharchenko and director Iryna Tsilyk.
The Ancient Kyiv Nature Reserve was also damaged during the attack, and the Chernobyl National Museum was significantly damaged.
The Ukrainian House suffered damage from the blast wave, causing the Chernobyl Shelter exhibition to be temporarily closed.
