On May 30, Russians destroyed a Church in the Donetsk Region

On the eve of Trinity, which this year falls on May 31, Russians destroyed the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the village of Zakytne in the Donetsk region.

Russian troops dropped an incendiary munition onto the roof of the church, the 81st Separate Airmobile Sloboda Brigade of the Airborne Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.

They explained that the Russians usually use such weapons to destroy dugouts and wooden structures.

“I hoped that the church in the village would stand until the end and that after it was liberated by our soldiers I would be able to return there, but the Russians… God be their judge,” said the brigade’s chaplain, priest Yaroslav, who previously held services in the now-destroyed church.

This incident happened in Zakitne for the second time – the Soviet authorities had already destroyed the church during the anti-religious campaign in the 1930s.

The modern building was designed and built in 2009-2010.
