The situation in the temporarily occupied territories of the Kherson region has significantly deteriorated

Ukraine calls on the UN and international partners to increase pressure on Russia to create humanitarian corridors and evacuate civilians from the temporarily occupied settlements of the Kherson region.

Due to the actions of the Russians, more than 6 thousand people, including about 200 children, were left there without basic living conditions. This was stated by the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Georgy Tykhy, on June 10.

During the UN Security Council meeting on May 19, the Ukrainian side informed representatives of all UN Security Council member states that the humanitarian situation in Oleshki, and not only in Oleshki, but also in Holya Prystan, Staraya and Novaya Zbur’yrivka, has recently significantly deteriorated. In fact, there are no proper conditions there to ensure the basic needs of local residents, including children,” Tykhy noted.

He added that the Ukrainian side informs international partners that Russian troops are artificially blocking the departure of people and obstructing the supply of basic consumer goods, food and medicines. Since critical infrastructure there is actually destroyed, there is no electricity and gas supply, that is, these settlements are on the verge of a humanitarian catastrophe.

Ukraine emphasizes that more than 6 thousand people may need humanitarian assistance, including about 200 children. “Most of the people there are disabled. Currently, more than 220 people have applied for evacuation from these settlements. Ukraine calls on the UN Secretary General and international partners to increase pressure on Russia to ensure compliance with international humanitarian law, as well as to create the necessary conditions and humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of civilians from these areas,” the Foreign Ministry spokesman emphasized.
