Craters, debris and a burnt monument: in Zaporizhzhia, ecologists recorded large-scale consequences of the Russian attack

It was here that the Russians struck residential buildings and the historical part of the city. This was reported by the press service of the department.

On June 17, specialists from the State Environmental Inspectorate of the Southern District completed an initial survey of the territories in the Oleksandrivskyi district of Zaporizhzhia, which were damaged as a result of the night attack on June 16 by Russian drones.

On the night of June 16, the Russians attacked Zaporizhzhia with dozens of attack drones. The Oleksandrivskyi and Kosmichnyi districts came under fire.

A 30-year-old Zaporizhzhia resident died while rescuing a girl during the attack. One of the drones hit a car next to it. Seven more people were injured.

Among the damaged objects was a historical building in the Oleksandrivskyi district. According to public figure Oleksandr Zubchenko, this building is of special importance for the history of the city.

More than a hundred years ago, soldiers of the Petro Bolbochan regiment and Vasyl Vyshyvany’s Sich riflemen were stationed here, who participated in the liberation of Oleksandrivsk from the Bolsheviks in 1918.

Private households and open areas were also destroyed. The building of the Zaporizhzhia National University was also damaged.

During the visit to the impact sites, inspectors recorded large volumes of debris and construction debris. In one of the areas, the area of the debris exceeds 1,200 square meters. Two more affected areas occupy more than 400 and more than 150 square meters.

For additional research, specialists took soil samples from an area of 9 square meters. This will allow assessing the possible impact of the consequences of the explosions on the state of the environment.

The State Environmental Inspectorate of the Southern District notes that all collected materials will be transferred to law enforcement agencies and the Operational Headquarters under the State Environmental Inspectorate of Ukraine.

Currently, the calculation of environmental damage is also underway.

In addition to the environmental consequences, the attack caused significant domestic problems for residents. According to the Zaporizhzhia City Council, 35 people contacted the authorities after the shelling due to damage to their homes.
