Over 900 cultural heritage sites were damaged in Kharkiv region due to Russian strikes, in particular, almost all historical buildings in the center of Kharkiv were negatively affected.
According to the report of architect-restorer Viktor Dvornikov, about 680 damaged sites were documented in Kharkiv and about 300 more in the region. That is, the total figure is already over 900. Statistics show that the number is dynamically increasing. Just one strike on the building of the art museum led to damage to five other sites – also architectural monuments.
The sites have varying degrees of damage. According to the architect, the condition of those sites that were not directly hit has also deteriorated, as they are affected by blast waves.
All sites within the central historical area of Kharkiv are damaged. These are side effects, but they do occur: cracks have opened up somewhere, the roof is leaking somewhere. It is clear that these are old buildings, often in a neglected state, so shelling – especially rocket strikes – leads to a serious impact on the buildings.
