In the temporarily occupied Donetsk region, Russia began to record furniture and appliances in the “ownerless” apartments of Ukrainians

In July 2026, in the temporarily occupied part of Donetsk region, Russia introduced a mechanism to recognize property in the apartments of Ukrainians as “ownerless”.

Thus, the occupation administration created a separate record of things that remained in the homes of Ukrainians in the captured settlements.

According to human rights activists, during the inspection of the so-called “ownerless” apartments and houses, the occupation commissions describe furniture, household appliances and other movable property, conduct photo and video recording. This means that the Russian Federation is moving from the appropriation of real estate to the inventory of the entire property complex left by Ukrainians in the temporarily occupied territory.

After the inventory, things can be transferred, used, written off or sold.

Thus, a controlled mechanism for the redistribution of private property of Ukrainian citizens is being formed.

Such a mechanism is evidence that the Russian policy of redistributing property in the occupied territories is deepening.
