Over 9 million books and textbooks: what the Russian attack on the warehouse in Kharkiv destroyed

As a result of the Russian attack on the logistics center in Kharkiv on August 1, millions of books were destroyed, including more than a million school textbooks that Ukrainian schoolchildren were supposed to receive. Some of the educational literature will have to be reprinted.

According to the director of the logistics center, Larisa Zubkova, the warehouse had an area of ​​9,904 square meters. Before the attack, book products were stored, packaged, and prepared for shipment here.

More than eight million children’s books for different ages were stored there. And there were more than a million textbooks that were supposed to reach children.

Among the destroyed educational literature were textbooks for fourth and ninth grades. In particular, these were books on chemistry, history of Ukraine, world history, physics, civics, and art.

In addition to products from “Ranko”, the warehouse also stored books from other publishers. According to the director of the center, a total of 12 publishing houses presented their products there.

Despite the losses, the publishing house continues to operate. Some employees are working remotely, and the company is looking for new warehouse space.

The remaining copies in the printing houses are planned to be taken to other warehouses. At the same time, some of the destroyed textbooks are already being urgently reprinted.

Restoring the lost copies will take time: it is necessary to repurchase paper and organize printing. This will take two to three months.

During the Russian attack on the logistics center “Ranku”, about 50 employees were on the territory. After the first hit, people tried to put out the fire, but a few minutes later a second hit occurred, after which everyone was evacuated.
