In Kharkiv, a recent Russian missile strike damaged the Cathedral of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. The church’s windows were broken, and the surrounding area and premises were also damaged. No one was injured
According to the report of the St. Nicholas the Wonderworker parish in Kharkiv, debris from the impact damaged the windows of the cathedral. The area around the church and the surrounding premises were also damaged. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Cathedral of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is the center of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Kharkiv. Its construction began in 2003. At that time, the community already had a plot of land where they initially equipped a room for worship.
Construction work was later suspended, but resumed in 2014. The cornerstone of the cathedral was laid in July 2015.
According to the project, the complex consists of two churches. The upper one is dedicated to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, and the lower one to the Holy Supreme Apostles Peter and Paul. The lower church also has rooms for catechetical meetings.
In addition to religious life, the cathedral performs an important social function for the residents of Kharkiv. A humanitarian center operates at the church: people are given food, clothing, medicine, and baby food. More than two thousand people receive assistance every week. Volunteers also deliver essentials to those who cannot come to the cathedral on their own.
The church has an “Invincibility Point,” where you can get hot food, charge your phones, and use the Internet. The cathedral also remains a place for worship and parish events. In particular, a children’s Christian camp was held there in the summer of 2026.
The scale of the damage caused by the Russian strike is currently being clarified on site.
