In Ukraine, almost 2,700 medical infrastructure facilities have been damaged or destroyed due to the war

As of September 1, 2026, in Ukraine, as a result of Russia’s full-scale armed aggression, damage or destruction of 2,687 facilities, which are part of 854 healthcare institutions, has been confirmed. At the same time, 340 facilities, which are part of 127 medical institutions, have been completely destroyed.

The relevant data were collected on the basis of information from the structural units for healthcare of regional military administrations and the Kyiv City Military Administration.

The greatest destruction was suffered by the medical infrastructure in the regions that regularly suffer from Russian attacks. The most damaged and destroyed facilities were recorded in Kharkiv, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, Mykolaiv and Kyiv regions.

At the same time, the above indicators do not cover all actual destruction. Data on Mariupol and other temporarily occupied territories remain incomplete due to the lack of an opportunity to verify the condition of medical facilities located there.

Despite the continuation of hostilities and the constant risk of new strikes, the reconstruction of medical infrastructure is ongoing in Ukraine.

As of early September, 752 facilities that were previously damaged as a result of the war have been fully restored. Another 317 facilities have been partially restored. At the same time, part of the already rebuilt infrastructure has come under attack again. According to the Ministry of Health, 87 facilities that were fully restored later suffered repeated damage.

Thus, the reconstruction process is taking place in parallel with new destruction, especially in frontline and border regions.

More than 1,600 facilities continue to operate. Medical institutions continue to provide assistance to patients even in difficult security conditions.

Currently, full-fledged activities are carried out at 1,639 facilities. Another 187 facilities are partially operating.

Due to the danger and destruction, 241 medical facilities had to be evacuated and re-located.

The Ministry of Health, together with international partners, continues to restore damaged hospitals and other medical facilities, while ensuring the ability to provide assistance in those communities where the full restoration of infrastructure is currently complicated by the security situation.

The Russian aggression has also caused significant losses to the emergency medical vehicle fleet.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 345 emergency medical vehicles have been destroyed. Another 225 vehicles have been damaged.

In addition, 80 ambulances have been captured by Russian troops.

In total, if we take into account the destroyed, damaged and captured vehicles, the losses and damage covered 650 emergency medical vehicles.

The Ministry of Health emphasizes that the restoration of medical infrastructure continues together with international partners. The main task remains to ensure continuous access of the population to medical care even in regions where the risk of repeated attacks remains high.
