Plant owned by US corporation Bunge hit by Russian strike in Dnipro

On September 10, Russian forces struck Dnipro. The “Oleina” sunflower oil production facility was targeted. There were no casualties during the initial attack that morning. News of a second attack emerged around 11:30 a.m.; two people were killed and five others injured during this strike.

The affected facility is one of Ukraine’s five largest food processing plants. It has a processing capacity of approximately 1,600 tons of oilseeds per day.

The plant processes sunflower seeds and produces and bottles vegetable oil, making it a key part of Ukraine’s food and agro-industrial infrastructure.

The plant is owned by a US company. US Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal visited the facility this past summer.

The strike on the Bunge facility marks the second time in recent weeks that a Russian attack has targeted a business owned by a US company. Russia has recently significantly intensified strikes on Ukraine’s economic and logistical infrastructure. Warehouses, food industry facilities, commercial sites, gas stations, and transport infrastructure are coming under attack.
