Over 2,600 tonnes of emissions: environmentalists assess damage from warehouse fires in the Mykolaiv region

In the Mykolaiv region, damage to the air caused by fires resulting from Russian shelling of warehouse infrastructure has been estimated at over 8.6 million hryvnias. The total area of the facilities damaged by fire covers approximately 20,000 square meters.

Based on site inspections and data from the State Emergency Service, the inspectorate calculated damages resulting from air pollution caused by fires at warehouses, supply depots, and storage sites for goods, machinery, and fuel.

The mass of combustion product emissions exceeded 2,650 tonnes, with carbon dioxide accounting for 2,633 tonnes of that total.

The environmental inspectorate notes that such fires can burn for several days, releasing combustion products—including toxic substances—that pollute the air.

Following fires caused by Russian attacks on Mykolaiv in September, damage to the air was estimated at over 7.3 million hryvnias.
