The United Nations has recorded 21,965 casualties among the civilian population of Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion. Among them, 8,231 people were killed, 13,734 were wounded.
The UN confirmed the deaths of 3,664 men, 2,173 women, 260 boys and 203 girls, the gender of 31 children and 1,900 adults has not yet been determined.
According to the organization, 17,619 victims (6,372 dead and 11,247 wounded) were in the territory controlled by Ukraine at the time of the Russian invasion.
From March 1 to 12, the UN recorded 293 casualties among Ukrainian civilians – 84 dead and 209 wounded.
The UN has stressed that the real death toll is much higher, as information from some places where fighting has been intense has been delayed and many reports have yet to be confirmed. This applies, for example, to Mariupol, Lysychansk, Popasnaya and Severodonetsk, where there are numerous victims among the civilian population.
