The Russian military has restored the operation of several quarries near the occupied Mariupol of the Donetsk region. They export the granite mined there to Russia and the annexed Crimea.

Petro Andryushchenko, adviser to the Ukrainian president of Mariupol, wrote about this. The Russians resumed the operation of quarries near the settlements of Karan, Kalchik and Aslanov. All of them are located to the north of the occupied city.

Only recently, the occupiers have carried out six blasts of rock. They take it by truck to the territory of Russia. The Russians take part of the granite to the Crimea.

Illegally mined granite is used by the occupiers to build roads in the Russian Federation.

Andryushchenko added that granite mining near Mariupol began after the return of the leader of the self-proclaimed “DРR” Denys Pushylin from Moscow. After this trip, the Russians handed over trucks to the militants to remove the rock.

In February 2023, the self-proclaimed “DРR” announced that they intend to use the ruins of buildings from captured Mariupol for construction and repair.

In early March 2023, the Russians boasted that since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, they had been able to capture almost 40 mineral deposits in the Donetsk region.

It also became known that Russia has already sent its specialists to the occupied Donetsk region to search for areas where prospecting and development of deposits can be carried out in the future.
