The UN confirmed the death of 8,709 civilians in Ukraine due to Russia’s aggression

The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has confirmed the death of 8,709 and the injury of 14,666 civilians in Ukraine as a result of the full-scale invasion of Russia. These are the data of the organization from February 24, 2022 to May 1, 2023.

From April 1 to 30, the organization recorded the death of 169 civilians and the wounding of 496 in Ukraine.

The UN has stressed that the real death toll is much higher because there are delays in receiving information from some places where fighting is ongoing and many reports still need to be confirmed.

Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine: the number of children killed in Ukraine due to Russian aggression has increased to 478.

“This applies, for example, to the settlements of Mariupol (Donetsk region), Lysychansk, Popasna and Severodonetsk (Luhansk region), where, according to reports, there have been numerous cases of the death or injury of civilians,” the message says.

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights indicates that most of the recorded casualties were caused by the use of explosive weapons with a large impact zone, including shelling from heavy artillery and multiple rocket systems, as well as rocket and airstrikes.

The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine previously reported that as of April 19, it had registered about 80,000 cases of potential war crimes committed by the Russian military since the start of the full-scale invasion.
