Russia is purposefully shelling the civilian infrastructure of Ukraine, including hospitals.
The World Health Organization reports that since the beginning of the full-scale war, the Russians have mutilated or destroyed about 900 medical facilities in Ukraine. It was specified that medical facilities include paramedics and midwives, as well as centers of primary health care, hospital buildings and hospitals in their entirety.
In total, 967 Russian attacks on medical facilities were recorded, – experts of the organization note.
The World Health Organization notes that at least 97 people died and 126 were injured as a result of such attacks.
The World Health Organization condemns all acts of violence against health care. These attacks not only kill and maim, but also deprive people of much-needed care, endanger medical workers and undermine the health care system, – said the press secretary of the World Health Organization Margaret Harris in a comment to the publication.
She emphasized that such attacks are a flagrant violation of international law and must be stopped immediately.
Harris also added that the attack on the hospital in Dnipro, during which two people died and more than 30 were injured, has not yet been included in the statistics, as the organizations carefully check all information about the attacks.
On May 26, Russian troops hit the Dnieper with missiles again, hitting the clinic building. The veterinary hospital was also destroyed. At the same time, two people died. One person was passing by.
According to preliminary estimates, the restoration of medical facilities in Ukraine will cost tens of billions of dollars. The restoration of inpatient hospitals will be the most expensive, because more expensive equipment was installed in them.
