More than 50 Russians have been recognized as war criminals in Ukraine. They were convicted by the courts. This figure was named by the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin. In addition, in respect of another 219 people, the investigation has been completed, the cases have been referred to the courts.
Also, according to Kostin, the identities of 368 Russian military men who are in the status of suspects have been identified.
Kostin noted that someone may say that 50 sentences are not many, but in communication, international partners are surprised at such a large number of them and that during the war Ukraine not only documents crimes, but also investigates them and submits them to the courts.
Most sentences are passed in absentia, but, according to the Prosecutor General, it is important for the victims to know that the guilt of the Russians had been proven.
Russia rejects accusations that its military personnel are committing crimes against civilians in Ukraine.
