The Russians shelled the Makhno family manor museum in Gulyaipolе

The memorial museum-house of the Makhno family in Gulyaipolе was destroyed by Russian shelling.

The Russians shell Gulyaipole near the front almost every day. One of the last “arrivals” was directly in the courtyard of the Makhno family estate, which is a historical monument. This estate belonged to the elder brother of Nestor Makhna Karp – also an active participant in the rebel movement. Nestor Makhn’s parents’ house was not far away.

After the Austrian troops burned it, Nestor’s mother lived in the house of Karp’s son. It was also the headquarters of the Makhnov army on several occasions. Nestor Makhno came here to visit his mother and often spent the night.

In 2019, the city community bought the house to create a memorial manor museum.

In front of the manor house, you can see a plaster sculpture of Nestor Makhno: the commander of the rebel army in a gymnastic dress and papas sat on a bench with a saber in his hands. The author of the composition is the famous Zaporіzhzhіа sculptor Vladlen Dubinin. It was installed in the courtyard of the manor in 2008.

Another monument to Nestor Makhno can be seen in the center of Gulyaipolе. It was opened a year later than near the estate – in 2009. Now this monument is unofficially considered a symbol of resistance and indomitability of the people of Gulyaipilе. After the start of a full-scale war, the monument was partially covered with sandbags for preservation purposes.

The other day, a mural dedicated to Nestor Makhno was opened in Zaporizhzhia. It can be seen at the Orbit Palace of Culture.

The sketches were drawn by the Ukrainian artist Nikita Kravtsov, who has lived in Paris for more than eight years and has extensive experience in creating murals. In particular, Nikita painted a large mural “Long live the Ukrainian resistance!” in the capital of France, opposite the Center Pompidou.
