The Russians brought about 100 Rosatom personnel to the occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP.
Dmytro Orlov, chairman of Energodar, said: “Such attempts were made in 2023. They were not numerous. If we take the total number, they brought in about 100 operatives.
These attempts were not successful enough, because when people come from other nuclear plants, where there are no hostilities, they come on such business trips, where something happens every day, where communal services are unstable, the unstable situation is safe from the point of view of the military, because the territory is close to the contact line. And people don’t go even for big salaries.”
Orlov emphasized that the Zaporizhzhia NPP remains mined around the perimeter:
“The nuclear plant remains mined around the perimeter, up to a thousand Russian personnel are stationed permanently on the territory of the plant, because they feel safer this way. There is military equipment at the station, in particular armored and heavy, as well as on the territory of the industrial site and in the sanitary protection zone. The Russians understand that the Armed Forces of Ukraine will never fire on a nuclear facility, so they feel safer there.”
The chairman of Energodar added that 2,000 of the 11,000 Ukrainian personnel remained at the ZNPP.
