The Preobrazhenskyi (Transfiguration) Church was built in 1814 at his own expense by the colonel of the Russian army, Pavel Oleksiyovich Khandeley, in honor of the victory over the Napoleonic army in the Patriotic War of 1812. The church was consecrated as the temple of Peter and Paul (temple day – August 19 – the Day of Saints Peter and Paul).
In the 1930s, the church was closed, and after the war it was partially destroyed. Later, the premises of the temple were turned into a granary. In 1946, after minor repair work, church services began thanks to parishioners’ donations. Mykhailo Zakora, a resident of the village of Novovyazumske, was appointed abbot.
In 1958, the church was closed again, there was even an attempt to tear it down. The temple did not even tremble from the explosions, and the blast wave had a negative effect on the houses located nearby.
From 1986 to 1989, the premises were reconstructed at the expense of the collective farm “Progress”. For two years, the temple worked as a cultural center of the village.
On January 18, 1991, the deacon of the Pavlograd district, Arch-Irenaeus Valentyn Tseshkovskiy, was invited to the meeting of the village residents, who on January 19 held the first divine service in the church with water consecration. There also took place the rededication of the church to the Savior – Preobrazhenskyi (Transfiguration).
