A mobile DNA laboratory was launched in Izyum to identify bodies from hundreds of nameless graves

The Russians have been terrorizing the locals for 7 months, and now they have only one desire – to bury their relatives in a humane way.

A mobile DNA laboratory works in Izyum, Kharkiv region, to help identify bodies from unmarked graves.

Relatives of the dead are taking tests to identify the bodies. Dozens of people go through this procedure in order to get at least some information about their relatives who have been missing for several months. In addition, the results of the tests are needed in order to issue a death certificate or allow the body to be reburied.

Izyum residents first testify to the prosecutors, and then go to hand over a DNA sample. Most of the people in line hope to receive news about their relatives.

Anatoly last saw his son on March 8, when he came to greet his mother, then disappeared. “It’s like they were buried under grave number 55. We need to submit DNA to know if my son is there for sure, or if he is still alive,” says the man.

447 bodies were recovered from the mass burial in the Raisin Forest, there were women, men, and even 5 children. The Russians buried the killed, and the relatives were given only the number of the grave and were not allowed to enter the cemetery. After the liberation of the city, forensic experts began the exhumation, which was completed in September. It is impossible to identify the dead immediately. “Most of us have questionnaire data, information from burial logs, but these documents are not accurate, because even in the log there were situations when a man was supposed to be buried under a certain number, but there was a woman. When there was supposed to be one person, in one grave – there were 3 bodies,” explains Dmytro Chubenko, the spokesman of the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

Therefore, experts took DNA samples from all the bodies. “It can be clothes. Washings are done if there are blood stains or hair with a bulb – there is also DNA there. They were entered into a single database,” experts explain.

At the beginning of March, Vyacheslav lost his mother, whose heart could not withstand the shelling. The occupiers took the bag with the body and promised to bury it under number 362, but now the body from this grave is unrecognizable, and it is not possible to rebury the woman without DNA.

Yulia brought her daughter, who was left fatherless in May, for a DNA analysis. “At first I hid her in the yard, and then the Russians came, when they performed the same ritual services, they took her and buried her under the number. We didn’t even know a single number, nothing,” the woman says.

According to local authorities, more than a thousand civilians were killed in Izyum during the occupation, and another two hundred were missing. The Russians have been terrorizing the locals for 7 months, and now they have only one desire – to bury their relatives in a humane way.

The identification process, experts say, can take up to two months. Currently, the exhumed bodies are kept in Kharkiv. As soon as information about relatives appears – they are given for burial.

The Dergachy city council showed the houses that were destroyed by the occupiers

Prudyanka, Tsupivka, Shapovalivka are the most destroyed settlements in Dergachyv region.

This was reported by the Dergachyv city council.

It is reported that Prudyanka, Tsupivka, Shapovalivka are the most destroyed settlements of Dergachyv region, where there are no surviving administrative buildings, objects of civil and critical infrastructure, and some streets have been turned into ruins by Russian artillery.

However, a total of 65 people remain in these towns and villages out of more than 2,000 who lived here before the war.

“The local chairman Yevhen Myachikov delivers building materials here in the form of wooden beams, fiberboard and awnings for roofs every day, so that people can at least somehow put their houses in order before winter, and volunteer organizations help with food, medicine, hygiene products.

Workers of Ukrzaliznytsia and the Kharkiv Oblast Highway Service are repairing transport highways that go through Prudyanka and Tsupivka to Kozacha Lopan. However, we urge citizens not to return here for permanent residence now, because due to significant destruction, there are no prospects of restoring gas and electricity supply in the coming months,” said the Dergachiv city council.

The de-occupied Vovchansk was on the brink of an energy disaster – People’s Deputy

The Vovchan territorial community of the Kharkiv region, deoccupied during the September Ukrainian counteroffensive in the Kharkiv region, is on the verge of an energy disaster.

People’s deputy Iryna Friz emphasizes this.

Friz notes that the Vovchan community was the only community in Ukraine directly connected to the Russian gas transportation system.

During the retreat, the Russians stopped the gas supply and it is impossible to start the heating season, although only about 5 thousand residents remain in the city, – emphasizes the people’s deputy.

Friz emphasizes that this problem has existed for many years, but the project on the integration of the community into the Ukrainian gas transportation system has not been completed yet, despite the relevant parliamentary appeals to the government.

I call on the authorities to immediately solve the problem of gas supply to the Vovchan community! After the horrors of the occupation, all these people should feel the care and help of the state not in words, but in actions to save them from the cold, because Vovchansk is Ukraine, – emphasizes Friz.

Oleg Sinegubov, the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, also spoke about the problems with the heating season in Vovchansk during the telethon.

Since the city is left without gas supply, there will be no heating in high-rise buildings that cannot be connected to alternative sources. Residents of such buildings will be advised to evacuate.

We will suggest people to evacuate. In case of refusal – and there are already such cases – we will provide them with heating points, – Sinegubov said.

Vovchansk was occupied by the Rashists on February 24, and on September 11, the Armed Forces entered the city. The city is periodically subjected to Russian shelling.

About 18,000 people lived in the city before the full-scale Russian invasion.
