A court in the Russian Federation sentenced a volunteer who took people out of occupied Melitopol

The court in Rostov-on-Don convicted Ukrainian volunteer Dmytro Golubev. He faces up to 18 years in prison in the case of the explosion of the patrol police building in occupied Melitopol.

The Russian court chose the punishment for the Ukrainian volunteer

Currently, it is known that 50-year-old Dmytro Golubev was a volunteer and helped Ukrainians evacuate from the occupied territories, as well as brought medicine and animal feed there.

The prosecution demanded a 20-year prison sentence for Golubev, but the court ruled on 18 years.

The volunteer was found guilty of preparing the explosion of the building of the occupation military-civilian administration of the annexed Zaporizhzhia region.

It is noted that Golubev refused to recognize himself as a terrorist, but said that he was indeed preparing the explosions.

Russia’s accusations against the volunteer

According to the version of the Russian investigation, after the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, Golubev was recruited by a Ukrainian intelligence officer who was preparing explosions in the occupied Melitopol.

It is reported that in August 2022, Golubev planted explosives along the route of representatives of the occupation authorities and planned to detonate them, but Russian security forces prevented him. Subsequently, on August 10, he allegedly set off an explosion near the building of the Russian patrol police in Melitopol, which destroyed the facade and interior.

Melitopol chairman’s reaction to Golubev’s imprisonment

Melitopol chairman Ivan Fedorov reacted to the imprisonment of the Ukrainian volunteer. He noted that the Russian Federation “continues the cynical trial of civilian prisoners.”

“The fictitiously accused Zaporozhian Dmytro Golubev, who helped evacuate people from occupied Melitopol to Rostov-on-Don, was sentenced to 18 years in prison. We must release every civilian prisoner with whom the Russian Federation settles accounts,” Fedorov wrote.
