A mine explosion off the coast of Odesa: what exactly happened to the grain truck Georgia S

Not far from the shores of the Odesa region, the bulk carrier Georgia S gave a distress signal. Before that, the ship left the “Southern” port with a load of grain.

Some Western media wrote that the bulk carrier Georgia S could have exploded on a mine near the Ukrainian coast. However, recently there was a continuation of the story with a grain truck sailing under the flag of Liberia.

What really happened to the ship

As the publication writes, in fact, this grain truck was not injured in the mine incident. At the time of the explosion, the ship Georgia S was southeast of Zmiiny Island.

The mine exploded 100 meters from the grain truck. The captain did not assess the situation and gave the distress signal. Later, after clarifying all the circumstances, the ship continued to carry wheat towards the Bosphorus. The ship is currently in the queue to pass through this strait.

The material assumes that an anti-personnel mine exploded near Zmiyny. These explosive devices are able to float.

Russia attacked a bulk carrier in Odesa

Recently, the Russian invaders hit the ship Kmax Ruler, which stood under the flag of Liberia in the port of Odesa. British intelligence assumed that the occupiers used the Kh-31 missile, which is generally intended to destroy radar stations.

The pilot died as a result of this attack. He had Ukrainian citizenship. A port worker and 3 Filipino citizens who are crew members were also injured.

Nataliya Humenyuk, spokeswoman for the “South” operational command, reported that the bulk carrier was quite seriously damaged. The captain of the 1st rank reserve of the Navy of Ukraine Andriy Ryzhenko emphasized that the Russians hit this ship deliberately, and not by accident.
