During the night shelling of Lviv on September 4, a whole family — a mother and three daughters — died. The father is in intensive care.
The chairman of Lviv, Andriy Sadovy, published a photo of the family on his social networks. He wrote that among the people in the picture, only a man remained alive.
“Evhen’s wife and three of their daughters – Yaryna, Darya and Emilia – died in their own home,” wrote Sadovy.
On Wednesday night, Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine. The Russian military hit the center of Lviv with ballistic missiles, including Daggers.
Authorities say there were two loud explosions. Several buildings were destroyed, more than 70 buildings were damaged, many of them residential.
During the rocket strike, seven people died, including children of one family aged 7, 18 and 21.
Later, the State Emergency Service reported that the mother and three girls were on the stairs at the time of the shooting, and the father, according to eyewitnesses, returned to the apartment.
One of the girls, Darya Bazylevych, was a student at the Ukrainian Catholic University.
On its Facebook page, the university published a condolence post in which it talked about the girl. Daria was 18 years old. The girl studied in the second year of the “Cultural Studies” program of the Faculty of Humanities of the Ukrainian Catholic University.
She was an active student, a mentor in the “Laboratory of Volunteering” of the university, worked in a theater studio, and studied acting.
Darya Bazylevych worked as a program manager of the “Lviv – Youth Capital of Europe 2025” office. “She worked with us from the very beginning of the Youth Center, and later with the entire TVORA network!” – says the message of the Ukrainian Catholic University.
Yaryna Bazylevych was a program manager of urban youth projects.
The father of the family, Yaroslav Bazilevich, comes from the family of Ivan Franko. He is the grandson of Zoryan Bazilevich, the nephew of Olga Franko (Bilevich). This information was confirmed by the director of the Lviv “House of Franka” museum.
The message of the Ukrainian Catholic University states that Yaroslav Bazylevych is in a critical condition.
The Ukrainian scouting organization “Plast” wrote that the mother and three girls were active members.
The vice-rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University, Sofia Opatska, told the BBC Ukrainian Service that she had known the girls’ mother Yevhena for more than 20 years. She was her student at the Lviv Institute of Management in 2001.
It was a “warm family with good Ukrainian traditions,” Opatska said.
Evgenia was a creative person, in her spare time she created jewelry herself.
One of the Instagram users published stories, noting that she knew this family. “I just want to scream out of anger and despair,” the woman wrote.
“In the center of Europe, Russia is destroying whole families of Ukrainians,” wrote Andriy Sadovy.
Numerous comments appeared under his post, where people react emotionally to the death of the family.
