In Hungary, the Ukrainian flag was unfurled during an opposition march. Opposition leader Peter Magyar called it a “provocation.”
The opposition march took place in the Hungarian capital, Budapest. According to its organizers, about half a million people came to the event. A group of young people brought a Ukrainian flag to the rally and unfurled it. Oppositionists have already reacted to this by calling it a “provocation.”
“The ruling party literally organized a fake provocation with the Ukrainian flag with the participation of young people associated with it. I wonder if this vile government can stoop even lower?” said Peter Magyar.
The protesters allegedly tried to snatch the flag from the young people, but they quickly left the rally.
Hungarian pro-government politicians have already managed to declare that the opposition rally unfurled the flag of “the country that blocks the supply of Russian oil to Hungary.”
Elections in Hungary: what is known about the anti-Ukrainian hysteria
Parliamentary elections will be held in Hungary on April 12. Orban’s party may lose power for the first time in many years.
Because of this, anti-Ukrainian hysteria has intensified in Hungary. Orban’s party has hung posters with anti-Ukrainian slogans in cities.
Orban has also accused Ukraine of stopping the Druzhba oil pipeline, through which Russia supplies oil to Hungary. Although it was Russia that fired on this energy facility.
