1,974 cultural institutions were damaged, of which 321 were destroyed.

The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy records damage to cultural infrastructure in Ukraine as a result of full-scale Russian aggression.

Thus, as of March 25, 2024, 1,974 cultural institutions (including cultural institutions) without taking into account monuments of cultural heritage suffered losses, of which 321 were destroyed (16.3%).

As a result of the aggression of the Russian Federation, 29 state-owned cultural institutions (9.8% of the total number in Ukraine) and 1,945 communally owned (6%) were destroyed.

According to information provided by the regional and Kyiv city military administrations, 28 cultural institutions were damaged during March.

The objects in the Kharkiv, Donetsk, Sumy, Chernihiv and Mykolaiv regions were the most affected. At the same time, the report includes detailed information on institutions that were previously destroyed and that are located in the temporarily occupied territory and/or the territory of active hostilities, in particular in the Donetsk region. In addition, there were repeated hits on already damaged objects, such as in Donetsk, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson regions and in the city of Kyiv.

In the period from February 24, 2022, cultural infrastructure suffered the greatest losses and damages in the Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kherson, Kyiv and Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Luhansk, and Zaporizhzhia regions. The largest group of damaged or destroyed cultural institutions are club institutions (48.2% of the total number of cultural infrastructure institutions that suffered damage).

In general, the following were affected:

  • club facilities — 951;
  • libraries — 705;
  • art education institutions — 151;
  • museums and galleries — 114;
  • theaters, cinemas and philharmonics — 36;

As of the end of March 2024, almost the entire territory of Luhansk and significant parts of the territories of Zaporizhzhya, Donetsk, and Kherson regions are still under temporary occupation, which makes it impossible to calculate the exact number of cultural institutions damaged during hostilities and occupation.

On March 25, a Russian rocket damaged part of the building of the Boychuk Academy in Kyiv. In particular, the sports hall, congress hall and exhibition center were completely destroyed. The premises of the departments and the auditorium of the institution were also significantly damaged.
