The entire quarter, which was hit by Russian S-300s from Belgorod on the evening of January 16, is a historical building. Among the damaged buildings there are five that have the status of architectural monuments of local importance. But most of those who do not have such a status are over a hundred years old.
This was reported by the Kharkiv architect, representative of the NEMOlab initiative, Viktor Dvornikov: “The entire quarter is a historical building: the preserved shape of the streets, the height, everything is evidence of history. This is the greatest value.”
According to him, the damaged architectural monuments are not located nearby, but near the house on Blagovishchenska Street, 10, where the Russian missile actually hit. Two damaged landmarks are located on Poltavskyi Shlyach Street, two more on Rizdvyaniya Street, and one monument on Kotsarska Street.
According to Dvornikov, one of these buildings – located at 22 Poltavskyi Shlyach, where the premises were damaged – suffered major destruction. The rest mostly have broken windows and roofs. But in several buildings (Blagovishchenska, 10 and Blagovishchenska, 5) the walls came off and were deformed, the load-bearing structures erected “according to the technologies of the 19th century” were damaged.
“The buildings have mixed functions. Mostly, these are residential buildings. In one of the damaged buildings on Blagovishchenska Street, authentic structures have been preserved, decorative elements are of high value. At the same time, there is damage to structures, including load-bearing ones. The building of a private hospital, which was destroyed as a result of the attack of the Russian Federation, is also a historical building, constructivism,” said the architect.
According to the latest information from the Kharkiv City Council, 30 buildings were hit by Russian missiles in this area of the city center, 23 of them residential. 687 windows were broken, 400 of which experts have already installed new ones.
According to chairman Igor Terekhov, during the Russian missile attack on Kharkiv on the evening of January 16, 23 residential buildings and six civil infrastructure objects, including a cafe, a medical and educational institution, were damaged in the city’s Kholodnohirsky district.
