“Arrival” over the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, damaged skyscrapers and casualties: all about the consequences of the shelling of Kyiv

On the night of June 15, Russia carried out a combined strike on Kyiv. As a result of the Russian shelling in the capital, houses, historical monuments were damaged and there were casualties.

Drones, ballistics and cruise missiles flew over Kyiv;

140 thousand subscribers were left without electricity due to the attack;

the Assumption Cathedral (Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra) was attacked;

the Russians damaged many residential buildings;

the Dovzhenko film studio was attacked, costumes burned;

23 people were injured and 4 died as a result of the shelling.

What did the Russians attack with

According to the Air Force, the enemy tried to direct drones at Kyiv in the evening, June 14. After the beginning of the new day, the number of drones increased, so UAVs began to fly to the capital and the work of air defense and explosions could be heard in the city.

After one o’clock in the morning, the enemy actively hit the capital with ballistic missiles. The attack continued for about two hours, with short pauses. Monitoring channels suggested that some of these missiles were “Zircons” from the occupied Crimea.

In addition, the Russians raised Tu-95MS/Tu-160 strategic bombers into the sky at night. Later, the enemy carried out launch maneuvers, and at approximately 02:50 the cruise missiles reached Ukraine and headed for the capital.

Consequences of the shelling

Kiev-Pechersk Lavra

The head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Timur Tkachenko, stated that the Russians deliberately attacked the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra today. As a result of a direct hit, a fire occurred and significant damage was recorded.

Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy Tetyana Berezhna clarified that the Russian Federation damaged the Assumption Cathedral.

At the same time, Archbishop Avraamiy reported that after the Russian Federation’s attack, the Lavra organized an urgent evacuation of shrines and liturgical objects. In particular, it was about ancient icons, anti-minsivs and other valuables.

“Thanks to the coordinated actions of the Lavra brothers, all those involved, as well as the selfless work of rescuers and fire departments, we managed to minimize the threats to people and save the shrines,” the Archbishop added.

In the morning, Tetyana Berezhna confirmed that the Russians attacked the Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Film Studio at night. This is one of the oldest film studios in Ukraine.

“A fire broke out. As a result of the hit, the costume shop was damaged. The largest and oldest costume collection in Ukraine was destroyed. The studio had about one hundred thousand costumes and three million pieces of various clothing. Other buildings and buildings of the film studio were also damaged,” she specified.

Rescue and emergency services are currently working at the site of the attack, and measures are underway to eliminate the consequences of the attack and ensure security.

Timur Tkachenko reported that as of 04:40 in Kyiv, more than 40 locations had already suffered significant damage. Chairman Vitaliy Klitschko also informed that 140,000 subscribers in the north of the capital were without electricity due to the Russian attack.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine also summarized the first consequences of the shelling and stated that damage was recorded in 10 districts, namely: Obolonskyі, Podilskyі, Pecherskyі, Solomyanskyі, Holosiivskyі, Shevchenkivskyі, Dniprovskyі, Desnyanskyі, Darnytskyі and Svyatoshynskyі districts.
